All About Carmelo

09/27/09 06:26

Carmelo is located in the Department of Colonia (Uruguay), located on the "Arroyo de las Vacas", very close to its confluence with the River Uruguay. It is 236 km away from Montevideo (capital of Uruguay) and the town faces the Parana River delta.

Carmelo is considered is the "second city of Colonia" after Colonia del Sacramento and has a population of 22,000 inhabitants. Caramel has a beautiful boat landing on the Arroyo de las Vacas. There you can find boats and yachts that arrive from the coast of Argentina and the rest of Uruguay. The Yacht Club offers a very good option for those who arrive in their boats to Carmelo. With a capacity of 120 moorings, a large dock wall, electrical outlets (220v), drinking water, toilets, hot showers, barbecues and a full camping area....for those who enjoy this sport this really is the perfect resting place.

In Carmelo you also have a wide range of hotels such as the luxurious Four Seasons

SOME PLACES YOU CAN VISIT IN CARMELO:

  •  Yacht Club & Dock
  •  Carmelo Rowing Club
  •  Puente Castells
  •  Plaza Artigas
  •  Reserva de Fauna
  •  Casa de la Cultura  (Casa de Ignacio Barrios del 1860)

Recently (7th may 2010) I went to N. Palmira by bus from Colonia and enquired about the depth for yachts at the Yacht Club I was told "a maximum of 1.4 metres". Does this sound correct to you ?

I passed through Carmelo and saw the rowing club. I never thought to ask about yacht moorings. My yacht needs 2.4 meters water depth ,can I get into the Carmelo yacht club? Who do I contact to find out charges etc. Please help.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 3901
