Uruguay Guys Uruguay Real Estate Blog Interview

By Interviewer at 06/19/09 14:27

Name of your website?

Uruguay Guys Uruguay Real Estate Blog

Your name?

Uruguay Guy

Your Location (city, etc)

Montevideo

Please give us a short summary of your website?

I print all the news (and rumor, factoid, and inuendo) that's fit and unfit to print on the Uruguay real estate market.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The "developed world" has been suffering through a very well publicized boom/bust cycle in real estate.

To date, the boom seems to have arrived in Uruguay, but not the bust. I found very few independent sources of information -- in other words, people who didn't make a living from that market. I have absolutely no skin in the game -- other than how real estate sales prices may effect rental prices in the future.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I launched it in 2007, but it grew very slowly. It's a blog format, that I update frequently, so the content is quite dynamic.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Hey, it rhymes, so you have a chance of remembering it.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

It's published by someone without a horse in the race so to speak. Most of the other real estate focused blogs or news offerings are driven by someone with a development or rental or something to sell. I'm just observing.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My eventual goal is to serve as a place where expats can make independent decisions about whether than want to move to uruguay and where, if they'd like to buy, rent, or just visit

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

It's a labor of love.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I'd make it a little bit prettier.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

"ha ha ha ha ha ha ha" -- not possible :)

What has been your biggest challenge?

finding credible independent information that I can share with my readers

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

taking online interviews like this :)

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

again, it's just a labor or love. it will serve as a starting place for those interested in unbiased research.

what do you hope to accomplish?

stop one person from making a bad decision

What is your website address?

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 6905
