What is the name of your Blog?

Living in Uruguay

What is your name?

Dave Hodgson

Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)

United Kingdom, Scotland.

What is your current age or age range?

26

Please describe your blog

A collection of articles regarding daily life in Montevideo as an expat or 'Extranjero'.

Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?

To act as an information store for myself and other expats or would be expats on living in Montevideo. It will include articles on observations of the culture, laws for tourists in various areas, learning Spanish, travelling in the country, useful companies I find along the way etc.

What blogging platform do you do and why?

Wordpress, because I have my own hosting already and the platform is very stable and simple install and maintain.

What do you blog the most about?

Living in Uruguay and the various experiences you can have as a result.

What kind of blogs make you angry?

Very few, I personally prefer ones that either give information or at least a balanced viewpoint if dealing with an arguement.

Give five of your best blogging tips.

1. Read your posts twice before publishing them 2. If you find it interesting write about it 3. If you dont find it interesting, dont write about it! 4. Try to keep your articles flowing and organised so they read easily. 5. Get your blog submitted to as many other sites as you can find that are relevant ;)

What are some things you would NEVER blog about?

Certain political agendas - I may want to go to the country some day and dont want problems with the visa!

Private financial matters - I dont want problems with my personal life!

Unfounded/Poorly though out views - I dont mind if they are likely to upset people; as long as they have a solid reason for being held and you have thought them through.

Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?

No, although i have since added some advertising to the site - I am not currently covering my hosting fees but I hope that will change in the coming weeks.

How long have you been blogging?

1 year

About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?

0.5 - 2

Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?

No

Do you use Digg, and why or why not?

Yes, it is a well organised resource and a good way to get your blog posts indexed

Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?

Yes, it is a well organised resource and a good way to get your blog posts indexed

What promotional techniques work best for you and why?

Digg, Stubleupon, Furl, Reddit - they are all the same at the end of the day.

They work well because they get the posts indexed quickly on Google and drive traffic to the site - they also give a start point for building links. I am a web designer by trade and know that incoming links is the only sure way to get up the rankings on Google and get your work read.

If you could post a blog on any blog in the world, which one would it be and why?

I dont read enough blogs to have a well thought out answer. I would probably try and find the most well respected (by search engines) and post a link to my own blogs ;)

What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?

1. Writing posts that are long and rambling - people dont read them. 2. Posting about topic you know will upset people - it gets traffic but also upsets a lot of people in the process and you deal with the agrevation as a result

What are your top five blogging site picks and why?

I dont have 5 present - but http://scobleizer.com/ is up there

Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?

No

What is the url of your blog?

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 5372
