A Trip to the Vet in Montevideo

By Lee at 06/22/07 09:59

, Cats: Kitty Bath TimeHaving a couple little burry beasts also known as Siamese Cats means the occassional trip to the vet.

There seems to be a pet store / vet on almost every corner, but we got used to one and it is a bit further away from our new apartment than before. You can still walk but its a bit far to carry a cat in a cage.

When returning from the vet the other day we hopped in a cab. The driver asked what kind of animal it was, I though just out of curiousity. However, when we got home he radioed in and asked the price for a domestic cat. We got hit with an extra 15 pesos.

My wife returned with the cat yesterday for a checkup and when she talked to the vet he said it was against the law to take a domestic (and I suppose wild too) animal in a taxi cab. He said that it was ultimately up to the driver but he could get a siginficant fine if the police saw.

I suppose there is an excemption for seeing eye dogs.

That's interesting. My daughter has hauled the ferret around in a taxi more than a few times, and being a penniless student, hasn't been surcharged, or denied a ride. Perhaps the driver doesn't see it, sitting in her lap. Maybe he thinks its a fur muff :)

We had used taxis before and since without a problem. Just the one surcharge and the comment by the vet.

I make it a point not to shop at websites that leave such stupid comments in blogs! Especially those that don't follow the instructions on how to add a real link.
